A Thinking Reed

Edwards on confinement farming

The former North Carolina senator told audiences that he would push for a national moratorium on building or expanding livestock confinement facilities. He also said he would push for tougher federal environmental regulations and for rigorous enforcement of current manure disposal laws.

One of the oft-neglected aspects of factory farming is the environmental degradation it gives rise to, and the diminishing quality of life it results in for those who have to live around it.

  1. Sorry to post on an unrelated topic, but here is an interesting read given your read of James Alison.

  2. Thanks, Christopher. I’ll definitely give that a read. I had the opportunity to hear Prof. Hefling preach in Boston (on the Ascension as I recall) and was impressed.

I still need to read more of Alison’s work before coming to any firm conclusions, I think – I have my reservations, but he’s definitely one of the more interesting and unique theologians I’ve come across in a while.
