Metal 101

A very nice primer from the AV Club.

  1. Thanks. Very useful. Rammstein’s theatrical pyrotechnics were cracking me up. Unfortunately the only one of the five recommended albums available at the library is the Black Sabbath album. I also put Tool’s “Undertow” on hold based on some of the comments to the article. I can’t see myself as a serious metal fan but, much to my wife’s chagrin, I do enjoy it now and then. This article should be useful for pointing me in the direction of some good bands – along with your weekly recommendations, of course.

  2. I had forgotten until today that my Dad used to listen to Black Sabbath when he was young. Of course, he only told me that as an illustration of his sinful ways, listening to devil music. He wouldn’t have been pleased to know that I’m listening to them on Pandora Radio right now. Still, it seems good to me to listen to something he used to enjoy.

  3. Of the five albums listed, Iron Maiden is also very well worth checking out. Slayer and Death are, however, not for the faint of heart. 😉

    “Undertow” is good too.
