Some readers might be interested in this profile of Tom Wright from the British magazine the New Statesman, which discusses, among other things, his politics and his “literalist” views on the Resurrection and the Second Coming. And, apparently, the good bishop likes his sports cars.

How traditionalistic is he about other things? Women’s ordination? Divorce? Gay marriage? Sex outside the narrow context circumscribed by the tradtion that considers it legitimate only if between lifelong spouses and for purposes of procreation?
And what about Church polity and discipline? Is he OK with ordination of people openly liberal on things like the resurrection? Is he open to freedom of conscience for candidates for the ministry and higher clerical office? What about ordination of practising, non-celibate gays? How about greater democracy in the Church?

As far as I know, Wright is more or less “left” on political issues and “right” on moral/cultural issues. Though he did defend Marcus Borg as being entitled to call himself a Christian despite the latter’s denial of a literal Resurrection (not sure what he thinks about unorthodox believers in the clergy.)
