It’s hard to know how seriously to take all the claims in this Seymour Hersh article on the Bush administration’s approach to Iran given all the unnamed sources. But the suggestion that the use of tactical nuclear weapons to destroy Iran’s nuclear sites is even being considered is scary.

Hersh has been doing top-notch reporting for the New Yorker since 9/11 on all sorts of national security and foreign policy issues. My impression based on his previous pieces is that his unnamed sources are pretty accurate; they are unnamed simply because they are fairly high-level government insiders and would lose their jobs in an instant if their conversations with Hersh were made public.
By his own admission, Hersh has been known to get some big things wrong, just as he gets some big things right.
Alas, the fact that he’s occasionally right is enough to give one the willies. I have no idea what to think of it.
