   Define Anachronism:
   “Did Jesus ever say anything at all about condoms or birth control?”
   I expected to the next question to be, “Did Jesus ever travel in a jet or speak the Bavarian dilect of German? Did he enjoy playing Mozart piano sonatas like you do, Mr. Pope?”

   That has to be about the dumbest thing I have ever read in cyberspace outside of my own blog (or the Big Ole Blue Hompage, its predessor). Too bad it was written this late in the month, it would have made a great April fools piece.

   I was sighing in frustration the whole time I spent reading that a couple of nights ago. Matthew Fox just Does Not Get It, and nonsense like that makes it harder to make real criticisms from the left.

   I thought Hans Küng’s response was the best I read. He was certainly a great deal more patient and pastoral than I was.
