A break from Friday metal – a little Ray Davies

I recently picked up legendary Kinks front man Ray Davies’ solo album Other People’s Lives at a used book/record store and have been enjoying it quite a bit.

Here’s Davies performing one of the songs, “After the Fall,” on The Tonight Show:

Now I see he has a more recent disc, Working Man’s Cafe; here’s a video of him performing the title track:

Here’s a clip of him performing the wonderful Kinks tune, “Waterloo Sunset.” In the introduction he’s given credit for inventing heavy metal, so I guess we haven’t strayed too far.

  1. Thanks for sharing this well-culled collection of Ray Davies clips. Waterloo Sunset is my favorite song of all time.

  2. Hello Lee,

Ray is actually going to be releasing a Kinks Choral Collection record on the 15th June inspired by the recent Crouch End Choir performances which you might be aware of. You can already watch and listen to previews of this new material on his MySpace page, and his official site has lots more information too, including some tour dates and promotional videos that might interest you.

    Hope you find these enjoyable!

  3. Oh, and for those of you in London at the moment, in case you haven’t yet heard, Ray will actually be performing a “secret gig” tonight (11th June) at 17:30 just next to Waterloo Bridge in front of the National Theatre along with Ian Gibbons and the Crouch End Festival Choir. He’ll be playing “just a few songs”, but the scene will be amazing, and for those that turn up the performance will not cost a single penny.

If you’re going, make sure to leave early because of the tube strikes!
