Against Iran panic

A good analysis and collection of links from Matthew Yglesias.

What I find so astounding is that many of the very same people who argued that Iraq posed an imminent threat to our security and that we must invade immediately are now arguing with straight faces that Iran … poses an imminent threat to our security and we must invade immediately! Forgive me if I seem a bit skeptical.

  1. I would argue that no one is arguing for “invading” Iran. Instead they are arguing for “the military option” to be “used” to stop Iran from getting a nuclear bomb. In other words, the current drum-beaters for war are avoiding the whole question of exactly what military option should be used because they know very well that we have no real military options: bombing won’t be effective and an invasion is so grossly beyond our capacities as to be not just unjust but absurd.
