A Thinking Reed

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest

Saw this over the weekend at a $5 matinee. I thought it was pretty good, actually. Lots of swashbuckling fun, cool special effects, Johnny Depp being weird and funny, etc. About a half hour too long and not quite as much fun as the first one, though. Plus, I find Orlando Bloom/his character to be completely uninteresting, and the aforementioned surplus half-hour could easily have come out of the scenes with him and his father.

I do have to disagree with the critics who complained about the ending, though. I liked the ending and thought it did exactly what the ending of the second movie in a trilogy ought to do, namely, make you want to see the next one.
