Articles like that one, while certainly right on in the Jackson cae and the other case mentioned, can lead to a deceptive assumption that this sort of thing is more common than it really is.
In 99 out of 100 cases the children or abused adults are telling the truth and far more cases go unreported because of the humilitation children and adults who accuse others of sexual and other abuse face when going public or even telling their families. The exceptions to the rule naturally recieve more attention in the media (where’s the coverage of teenagers returning home safely from their vacations in Aruba?) but sometimes its hard to remember that these are the exceptions.
