If tyranny is to come in North America, it will come cozily and on cat’s feet. It will come with the denial of the rights of the unborn and of the aged, the denial of the rights of the mentally retarded, the insane, and the economically less-privileged. In fact, it will come with the denial of rights to all those who cannot defend themselves. It will come in the name of the cost-benefit analysis of human life.

Peter Singer, who has written many works in ethics, more than one in politics, and one specifically dedicated to attacking GW, has written in defense of abortion, assisted suicide, involuntary euthanasia, and the thesis that sometimes the right thing is to sacrifice human life to save an animal rather than vice versa.
He is infuriated by the remaining, and waning, influence of Christianity on Western culture and politics, and has thundered against any ethic appealing to the principle of the sanctity of life.
He is much admired by the party of abortion and stem-cell research, and other enthusiasms of the Populares.
