Here’s the host of NPR’s “This American Life” explaining to David Letterman. The funny thing is that throughout the clip Letterman and the audience are chuckling at the wacky “poultry activist”* who protested Glass’s show because of some feature they had called “Poultry Slam” (full disclosure: I’ve never listened to the show). The audience is clearly expecting him to mock this lady, but he recounts how she finally convinced him to come visit her chickens and that he ultimately decided he had to stop eating these creatures, each of whom, he says, has their own personality!
You have a positive and hopeful attitude toward the world. You think that nature, history, and even the pagan philosophers were often guided by God in preparation for the Advent of the Christ. You find “seeds of the Word” in unexpected places. You’re patient and willing to explain the faith to unbelievers.
Say what you will about these internet quizzes, my results have been remarkably consistent:
73% Mike Gravel 66% Dennis Kucinich 56% Ron Paul 55% Chris Dodd 54% John Edwards 54% Bill Richardson 50% John McCain 50% Barack Obama 49% Mike Huckabee 49% Joe Biden 47% Hillary Clinton 42% Mitt Romney 35% Fred Thompson 34% Tom Tancredo 27% Rudy Giuliani
In case you thought ATR was the only place on the web where Christianity and heavy metal fandom intersect, the blog Metal Sucks offers a “guilty pleasure” playlist of Christian metal. I’m not crazy about any of it, though the As I Lay Dying song is ok. And yes -Stryper does make the cut.
Beatallica – a band devoted exclusively to doing Beatles covers in the style of Metallica. The album is St. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band. Tracks include “..And Justice for All My Lovin,’” “Blackened in the USSR,” and “Leper Madonna.”
Slightly reminiscient of Dread Zeppelin, the original mash-up band.
Now, I could be going out on a limb here, but I’m going to bet that Graham is probably not a fan of Korn, Evanescence, Atreyu, Hellyeah, or Trivium.
Gotta be careful what you write about there, Graham! One minute you’re critiquing the Religious Right’s distorted view of what constitutes “family values,” the next you’re shilling for Korn!
By the way, Hellyeah is the new project of former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul.
Here’s a video of Vinnie buying $1000 worth of Jagermeister – it doesn’t get much more metal than that, friends (n.b. some bad language):
